Founder's Story: The Creation of Lotus Japan

Japan Recruit founder Jack Plimpton's account of establishing Lotus Japan.

Jack Plimpton, President

Japan Recruit, a division of Japan Entry, is built upon the leadership of founder, Jack Plimpton, former General Manager of Lotus Development Japan, a start-up he developed into a 35-person organization with $10 million in first-year revenues. Lotus Japan went on to sell 20% of the total worldwide volume of Lotus Notes throughout the 1990's. Mr. Plimpton is completely bilingual in spoken/written Japanese. He holds an MBA from Stanford University, studied at Tohoku University on a Rotary Scholarship, and graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard College.

Ken Sumitani, Japan President

Ken Sumitani serves as Japan President with responsibility for overall direction and executive recruitment projects. Prior to joining the consulting team, Mr. Sumitani was Vice President in charge of the 70-person Executive Search Division, Recruit Human Resources Center. During his tenure at Recruit, he established and managed its Los Angeles-based subsidiary. Mr. Sumitani graduated with a degree in economics from Keio University.

Masami Suzuki, Director Consulting

Masami Suzuki serves as Director Consulting with responsibility for business development and OEM sales representation projects. Prior to joining Japan Entry, Mr. Suzuki served as Business Development Manager at Teradyne Japan. Previously he led a team to customize and implement product development processes for telecom and IT customers at PRTM. His prior experience includes product management, business development, and sales roles at i2, LSI Logic, Motorola, and Sony. Mr. Suzuki received an MBA from the University of Michigan, and his BSEE from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1985.

William Lohse, Board of Advisors

William Lohse serves as an advisor to the company. He has been an angel investor since 1990. In addition, Mr. Lohse previously was CEO of Softbank Expos where he grew revenues to $200M. He was President of Ziff-Davis Publishing and managed 1,800 employees with revenues of $350M. Previously, he founded Breakthrough Software which was later acquired by Symantec.
